Was a great weekend at Rainbow! Around a foot of snow was dumped on Rainbow the Friday before the race which meant racers were skiing fresh line's!

The race day was really windy, with a cold southerly blast of wind, still 16 racers turned out for what is becoming a classic race.

Possible course?? We will see. We'll be up at Rainbow the day before setting the course. As always the course is very weather and snow dependent.

Details/Race Day Schedule

-Date- 9th August 2008
-Venue- Rainbow Ski Area, Nelson lakes, NZ
-Entry Fee- $30 per person
-Divisions- Open Male & Female
-Course- TBC, around 700metrs of vertical, made up of 3-5 ascents and descents. The race course will be similar to last years race and hopefully involve a ascent and descent of 6-1.
-Required Equipment- Skis (or Split board), skins, boots, poles, helmet, gloves, light weight shell jacket, race number, transceiver, shovel, probe, pack (able to carry skis and fit required gear in it) required.
-Registration/Race number bib pick up- 8:30am-9am Mt Robert Ski Club hut
-Pre- race meeting- 9am Mt Robert Ski Club hut
-Race Start- 10am, above beginner's rope tow
-Cut Off Time- 12pm, place tbc
-Prize Giving- 1:30pm- Top 3 Male & Female Prizes, Major Prizes are all SPOT PRIZES
-Series Points- 1st-30 points, 2nd-25, 3rd-22, 4th-20 and so on....
-Sponsors- Rainbow Ski Area, Wilderness Magazine, The climber Magazine, Buff Head Wear, ChillOut Mt Pass, New Zealand Alpine Club, Protector Safety, Leki poles

The Rainbow Rando ski mountaineering race will be held on August 9th '08.
